Disappointment...
I know that no one is reading this blog, so I am using it a bit like an intermittent journal or confessional. I hate to admit it, but I have a confession...I have not been as good or disciplined as I wanted to be. The cheat meals have been increasing in frequency and my weight loss has slowed down to only a pound a week, which just isn't going to cut it. I won't make it to my goal in time for my climb up Long's Peak at a pound a week.
A friend is traveling along this weight loss journey with me currently, and they did something so inspiring...he committed to a 30-day juice fast to reset his system and really start his journey strong...he committed to do it through the Holidays! And he is now 18 days in and has already lost 25+ pounds!!
It makes me think that perhaps I also need some sort of a big gesture to help force myself to remain focused on the task at hand the goal and the end of the journey. I am considering taking on a juice fast of my own in the New Year - maybe 15 days. I think that starting the New Year with a strong commitment to health sets the tone well. I think that I am going to commit to it now. I will start my juice fast on the 10th of January and complete it on the 26th of January. Hopefully it will be a strong start to my weight loss next year.
You may be asking why not start the fast on the 1st of January? We are going to New England on vacation with the kids the first week of January, and I think that trying to do vacation with a hyper-restrictive diet doesn't make much sense...I don't want to be cranky when we are trying to have fun and show the kids a new part of the country. I think that it is the right thing to do to seek to eat in a healthful and mindful way between January 1st and 10th, but kick off the fast when I am home and can handle it safely and well. Stack the cards in my favor, so to speak.
To complete this year, I have roughly two more weeks, so I need to get at least four more pounds off before 2017 times out. That will feel like a strong end to the year.
